Precision Agriculture: Building A Sensor Mesh to Reduce Irrigation
I created an irrigation recommendation system by modeling water use at the near vine-level by ingesting data from lidar, soil moisture probes, temperature and humidity sensors I deployed throughout the property, and the Wunderground weather station network.
The results were recommendations for imrpoving irrigation practices at the Block level, and at a micro-watershed level. Blocks are defined by the vineyard managers, while the micro-watersheds were determined by a geospatial analysis I conducted. Considering recommendations at the watershed level allowed the vineyard managers to consider the downstream impacts of irrigating specific areas.
Initial recommendations were done for Benziger Family Winery, with a later follow-up analysis conducted at Concannon Vineyard.
